Green and Intelligent Innovation Empowers Industrial Upgrading: Major Food Packaging Exhibitions Held Across China in August 2026

2026-08-31

August 2026 witnessed a vibrant exhibition boom for China’s food packaging industry. A host of professional expos debuted in Hangzhou and Guangzhou, focusing on eco-friendly materials, intelligent packaging, fresh-keeping technology and customized printing solutions for pre-cooked and e-commerce food. Serving as vital industrial docking platforms, the events connect food manufacturers, packaging enterprises, equipment suppliers and global purchasers, fully preparing the supply chain for the year’s peak food consumption season.
From August 13 to 15, the 2026 Hangzhou International E-commerce Food Packaging Container and Printing Exhibition launched at Hangzhou Convention and Exhibition Center, alongside the 27th Global High-end Food Exhibition. Spanning 80,000 square meters, the exhibition gathered over 1,200 exhibitors and attracted 120,000 professional visitors. Tailored for the booming e-commerce food sector, it showcased diverse products including vacuum packaging bags, modified atmosphere fresh-keeping packages, molded pulp containers, eco-friendly inks and cold chain packaging. Smart one-code traceability labels and digital customized printing stood out as key highlights, providing flexible small-batch packaging solutions for snacks, baked goods and frozen pre-cooked foods, which won wide recognition from e-commerce food brands.

Subsequently, the Guangzhou International Fresh Food and Catering Packaging Exhibition ran from August 21 to 23 at the China Import and Export Fair Complex, bringing together nearly 400 leading enterprises. Targeting fresh food supermarkets, chain catering and pre-cooked food factories, the expo focused on fresh-keeping technologies and paper-for-plastic green alternatives. Advanced modified atmosphere and skin packaging technologies effectively extend product shelf life and reduce logistics losses, while PLA degradable tableware and plant fiber containers support catering enterprises’ green and compliant transformation. Concurrent technical forums discussed export packaging compliance, degradable material cost control and recyclable packaging design, facilitating in-depth cooperation between domestic manufacturers and purchasers from Southeast Asia, the Middle East and other overseas markets.
The two exhibitions fully demonstrate three major development trends of China’s food packaging industry. Firstly, green degradable materials such as molded pulp, PLA and PBAT have achieved large-scale application. Single recyclable materials are replacing complex composite structures, complying with China’s plastic ban policies and EU environmental regulations. Secondly, functional fresh-keeping packaging is constantly optimized for pre-cooked food, fresh meat and fruits, balancing superior preservation performance and cost reduction. Thirdly, intelligent packaging is gaining popularity, with traceability QR codes and anti-counterfeiting printing enabling packaging to serve as a multi-functional carrier for food safety supervision and brand promotion.
The industry still faces prominent challenges. Degradable packaging materials remain more costly than traditional plastics, with shortcomings in temperature and seepage resistance. Balancing environmental compliance and production costs has become a key difficulty for enterprises. Insiders noted that continuous optimization of formulas and large-scale intelligent production will narrow the price gap between green and traditional packaging, boosting sustainable industrial transformation.
As the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day consumption peak approaches, food packaging market demand keeps rising. The August 2026 exhibitions integrate new materials, technologies and equipment, driving China’s food packaging industry toward low-carbon, intelligent and customized development. These events effectively empower the high-quality upgrading of the domestic food industry and help local packaging enterprises expand global market layout.
